The Lovely Bones

Long before the movie came out, I was handed a book called The Lovely Bones by Alice Sebold. I had neither heard of the author nor the book itself. This was a few years ago. When the book starts out with a young girl talking about how she was murdered at such a young age, how can you put it down? It is mind boggling how any person could bring such harm upon a young soul and such tragedy to a family that was so close.

The best part about having a close family is that they look out for eachother. In this compelling story of this young girl's murder, the family never stops trying to find answers. In this case the father feels a connection with his daughter. He feels that even though she is gone she is still there trying to help him find her. In a time where police have nothing to offer, it is hard to keep up such hopes that you will ever find answers.

I haven't seen the movie itself, but like with any movie/book pair ther book is always the better option. You miss certain details if you never read the book because they can't put everything into the movie. It seems to do the book justice and with the power and emotion that surround this book you have to do it justice. You have to give justice to Susie Salmon.

I don't want to give it all away because you should read it for yourself! Then you should see the movie and tell us all how it compares to the book! It is a very good read. It was so good that I found out Alice Sebold also wrote two other books, The Almost Moon and Lucky. This isn't part of The Lovely Bones but they are very good books. I have read The Almost Mooon and just finally got Lucky. The Almost Moon was a fascinating book about a daughter killing her own mother. Alice Sebold just seems to keep "going there" to say. She talks about these instances that would be most unacceptable in our society, but she makes them impossible to put down!
